Very small round egg
Hi every one .....I have six eggs at the moment in my incubater ......three normal size .....out of those three one looks infertile one I'm not sure and one is looking good with red veins .....the other three consist of a tiny egg ...totally clear ....a one inch compleatly round egg that also looks fertile with veins ...and another that I'm not sure about ....my question is ....has anyone had any hatchlings out of a smaller size egg before and do they develop properly x

The size of the egg really doesn't make much difference if it's fertile. I have had small eggs and some over large ones and they are fine, with the small ones you just need to keep an eye on the babies a bit more.

Yes, egg size doesn't matter, just the resulting babes need extra care. I have had babes hatch at 17gms and at the other end of the scale at 9gms!!! The shape of the egg isn't a problem either, though with my very small eggs the resulting hatchling emerged the shape of the egg....,very round, which caused a panic here but great advice from this forum helped it straighten out!!! Thankyou so much for your advise I feel a lot better now ....this is my second batch of hopeful looking eggs ....my first batch four years ago resulted in four lovely girls ..who are now living happily with my other girls ......I tried for twenty years to hatch eggs ...never being successful until I opened my incubator and they were just there .....this time I now know what I'm doing and to see I have fertile eggs is so exciting ...this time I get to watch the progress xxx

Sometimes tortoises lay really tiny eggs, a third of the size of normal eggs. These are generally not fertile. But like all tortoise keeping its worth incubating just incase, especially as you have other eggs.
