But if the torts have dug down, say 12" or so, the temps under the soil would be more stable. It's not just the temperatures that affect them but the air pressure as well

I think my tort has already tried to wind down due to the change in the weather. This would be my first year of hibernating, however, when he first came to me he was very underweight, I got his weight up to a healthy range and he was checked at the vet for worms etc. in April he was all clear. The Vet said he was very healthy.
He is now slighty underweight as after his gain in weight he just stayed at a steady weight and has grown, but has been very picky with his food over the last few weeks. Now I won't be able to hibernate him this year, does anyone have any suggestions to perk him up a little?

Some people add an extra or old UV tube to their indoor enclosures to brighten them up
