Pensioners plead for help in missing tortoise hunt
3:09pm Tuesday 11th May 2010

DISTRAUGHT pensioners are appealing for help in finding their beloved pet tortoise Fred, after he went missing last month.

Norman and Molly Pearce have owned their “family friend” Fred for more than 40 years but the tortoise disappeared from its pen in the couple's back garden on April 25.

The Totteridge couple enlisted the help of friends and neighbours to track down Fred, who is described as 10 inches-wide, of dark green colour with feint white paint marks on it's shell, but the search party has so far come up short.

Mr Pearce is now pleading for extra assistance to ensure his precious pet is returned home.

He said: “We keep him in the back garden in a a little home and we don't know when he escaped, where he went or anything.

“He walked off once before but only through to our neighbours' garden but we've been round to talk to all our neighbours and no-one has seen him.

“I'm concerned someone has found him and doesn't know how to care for him because not everyone knows how to care for a tortoise and we just want him home.

“We've looked after him since he was a baby and cared for him for about 41 years - he's like a family friend.”

Contact Mr Pearce on 01494 447672 with any information about the
