Default fruit flies

Does anyone have tiny flies buzzing around their tortoise table? I think they are fruit flies though I have never given fruit of any kind to my torts, I do sometimes leave the weeds that have not been eaten for another day but obviously add some fresh to them and clear everything at the end of the second day (if that makes sense?) Are they a problem or just something that would happen in the natural environment?

They are fungus gnats. They eat all the fungus that grows when the soil is kept moist. They are not a problem unless they get on your nerves.

get some of those sticky double sided fly sheets they can be stuck on the sides of your table and will help with the flies, just watch when you lean over the table that parts of you don't get stuck as well. They don't give of fumes/are poisonous etc and are fine for the house.

Isnt it more of a problem when you have plants in the table? ive not had a problem with fruit flies in the tables, only when i had a particular plant in my house (not in the tortoise table) it was a large plant and that had loads of them buzzing around it, the soil was very moist, when i got rid of the plant it stopped the little buggers....just a thought x

The ones that I get in the substrate are tiny, like fruit flies, they're a real pest.
You have to change the substrate , but it's not long before they're back, gggrrrrrr.

These are brilliant - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAINS-ELEC...item589db7d225

Hang/place near your tortoise table and leave it on at night when all the lamps are off.

I had one of these but had to stop using it as every time a fly got zapped in it my dog freaked out with the sound

But they are good

Same with my dog Gordon. I've got one of those electric tennis racket things as well and he shakes when he so much as sees it.
