Missing Hermann's Tortoise
My female Hermann's tortoise went missing from my garden on Sunday 23rd May from Macclesfield in Cheshire.
She is 8 years old and approximately 16 cm in length. She is a female but has a long tail and is sometimes mistaken for a male. She also has a very small white paint mark on her shell. If anyone has any information or thinks they may have found her please contact me, I'm desperate to have her back. Hazel86 |

Oh Hazel ... I hope you find it. I would contact the National Exotic Pets Theft Register coordinator: John Hayward as he keeps a register of found/missing tortoises and offers help with finding them.

The best way to find your tort is to obviously look in the area in grassland shrubs etc and to look and follow the sun. They will always follow the direction of the sun. I found one in our next door neighbours garden this way. Whena very sunny morning then again go looking as they will come out. Poster the area with a mobile phone number as contact. Get her in the local paper. Tell the police although they will not investigate they will be aware of the torts loss.
Do you have any form of physical easy identification? Look in papers for a tort for sale in your area photos etc here come in useful for quick easy indentification Good Luck PS also check your own garden thoroughly it was very hot on Sunday and she may have dug down and not been that warm since so she could be in a scrape under a bush or a tree. Thank You everyone for your replies, it means alot!
I've been out every day looking especially when its been sunny just hopeing she appears! I've informed all vets and wildlife centres near by and my local tortoise groups. All my neighbours know to look out for her and there are poster around where I live. The only thing that makes her stand out is that she has a small white paint mark on her shell where she brushed past a paint brush a while ago on one of her walk. I hope very soon that my next post will be to inform everyone that she has been found safe and well Hazel |
