Supplements
when my torts are out all day do they still need extra supplements, they have the garden which has plenty of weeds growing etc but do they still have to have extra food in order to give them there calcium/vitamins or will they get enough by themselves, I prefer to see them foraging for themselves but obviously I have to give them something in order to sprinkle their nutrobal/limstone flour on it, the babies are still getting used to finding their own food and if I give them something else won,t bother much they wait for me to put it down for them, Tootsie is fine she eats anything she finds, will they find enough themselves.

I have the same problem I have always given Cuttle fish bone and I like them to forage for themselves in the garden which has weeds and and plants that are tortoises friendly, I bought some limestone but in order to give it to them I have to put weeds in their shed for which means they eat before coming out to forage, I wounder if a limestone block would be better.

I have no weeds at the moment growing in my outdoor enclosures. So still go weed picking so easy for me to sprinkle limestone and nutrobal on their food. Maybe offer them some cuttlefish and a bowl of limestone power.

Well some people say no. But I always leave a cuttlefish or sprinkel limestone on their food just to be safe.

thanks thats what I was hoping to hear so in principle they really only need the extra when they are inside autumn/winter they always have cuttlefish and limestone flour down anyway but I really don,t want to pull up and feed I want them to get used to finding their food themselves, Tootsies fine she just wanders around nibbling this and that and spits out what she doesn,t like they will have the occasional treat such a strawberry in season they love one picked from the garden when they are all warm and juicy, yum so do I.

I just sprinkle the limestone or nutrabol onto the plants in the enclosure, and then add a few dandies etc scattered around which has powder on.

Some people even mix in limestone flour into their soil so as the weeds grow they take in the calcium.
