Thanks for your reply. You wont believe it but I went to Ikea yesterday ( over 50 miles away) returned home with two bookcases then went online and read your post !! I didn't realise they had a clearance section so paid full price for two identical bookcases 3'6" high (106 cms) x 2' 7" wide (80 cms). I had decided to somehow join the two together at the sides so that it made a tort table 3' 6" wide and 5' 3" long. The idea was good but I hadn't accounted for the fact that although the bookcases were meant to be identical, the sides on one were 1/2 inch smaller. When i went to put them together as a rectangle the depth of one half is 11" but the depth the other half is 10 1/2 ". I am so mad. I could have taken them back but can't get back there for a while and wanted to get on with it. I have had to saw 1/2 inch off three parts of it so that it is equal height when laid on its back. The backs of the bookcases were so flimsy that I now have to have a base made especially AND I had to buy a table for it to go on !!! I am happy to say the table went together like a dream and is really stury but please do not ask how much this will have cost me......I would be too embarrassed to say !! I am sure it will all work out in the end. Where there's a will, there's a way ! lol. Reading this back it sounds a bit confusing but I hope you understand what I mean. |

Hi Joanne
Thanks so much for posting that thread, it is a great help. Wow......that is some table. A bit ambitious for me I fear, but who knows. When I finish what I am building at the moment I shall post some photos. I just hope I have not bitten off more than I can chew !! Jackie xx |
