is my horsfield gravid ?.
I bought a 6" female horsfield tortoise about a mounth a go, it never moves that much as it has been overfed and is very fat, but the last few days it has stopped eating so last night I give her a good bath and she done 5 large poo's and in the poo was a large pebble about 5 to 6 mm in size after her bath tried with food and she eat 3 dandilion leaves but today she has eaten nothing.Any ideas?.
she has only done 2 poo's in the last month. she also keeps digging holes in the soil could she be gravid?. |

sound more likely that she is getting ready to hibenate to me...........but i would make sure you do a proper winddown first especially with the amount of poo she did yesterday!!
did you know that in the wild Horsfield torts are only active for about 3 months of the year? the rest of it they are asleep .................and i thought sloaths were lazy!! Dawn Dawn |

William, most Horsfields are getting ready or slowing down now at this time of the year and your's could well be just digging down trying to hibernate. However, if you have any concerns that she may be gravid you should really take her to a reputable vet and get her x-rayed to rule this out.
Do you know much of her history? |

thanks for the answers dawn and bindi, I was a little worried as I was comparing her to my other 4 horsfield's who are eating and pooing regulary.
I guess they all have their own ways.she is digging the holes with her front legs, do they dig nests with their rear legs when gravid?. |
