I have spoken to the owner of the stolen tortoises this morning, it sounds possible that the tortoise that was sold to my friends neighbour could be one of the missing one as it was described as being lumpy. They unfortunatly returned it back to where they got it from as they found out it was stolen (I know, some people use no common sense!) & got their money back, but hopefully they will be able to point us in the right direction.
With regards to the tortoise spotten in the park, it turns out the park is less than 100 yards from where they were stolen & where 6 of them were dumped so this also sounds hopeful. The owner has had a walk around the park today & spoken to a few dog walkers so all is heading in the right direction. I will be helping search if it is still not found on Sunday when I return from working away. Apparently people in Bridgwater have no common sense... the person who saw the tortoise in the park didn't think of picking it up as it shouldn't be there, they just left it!! Sometimes you could just bang your head against a wall with the stupidity of some people but never mind.. things could be looking up for the fianal two missing tortoises! |

There is another missing now in Bath. A 72 year old Hermanns. I'm very very sad to hear of this...Bath is 6 miles from where I live (Bristol).
Didn't know if any of you all knew...I'm sad. Family is lovely, and devastated. xx |

Yes had heard of the missing tortoise in Bath it's a female Hermanns who has been in the same family for a very long time. No news at the moment.
Regarding the Bridgwater tortoises I am pleased to say that number eleven (Marginated) has been recovered in Taunton which now only leaves the little male ibera which needs lots of tlc as he is deformed and has had a couple of prolapses in the past. Please keep looking. Mary |

This is a piccy of the spur-thighed male tortoise that is still missing from Bridgwater. He is approximately 4-5 inches long and has a lumpy shell. He does indeed need specialist care and attention, due to a prolapse when he was younger. So it would be even more wonderful if he could be reunited with his owner, so that he can receive the specialist care that he needs to survive.
Thank you for the continued publicity. I saw in The Sun today details of the 14 tortoises stolen in Kent... so very sad. It also mentioned those stolen in Bridgwater earlier this month and also 2 others from Colwyn Bay in North Wales. Hopefully the media publicity will help return them to their rightful owners. |

Stolen Tortoise, Bridgwater, Somerset
I've now added this one to the UK National Pet Register and posted it on facebook. So if people can try and keep this search alive and keep spreading the word by whatever means, my parents would be very grateful.
Many thanks... Sue Stolen Ibera Tortoise, Bridgwater, Somerset - UK National Pet Register |
