It is growing everywhereeeeeeeeeeee! Makes up hedgerows of so many fields.. surely you can take cuttings and put into soil with hormonal rooting powder?

Privet is toxic to torts I think but I'm sure I've seen it at the garden centre if you just want a hedge but you will have to wait many years for it to become a hedge

I have grown butter nut squash and peper plants from seed out of the fruit I have bought.
I simply tke them out....allow to dry for a couple of weeks on tissue paper and then plant into compost on my kitchen window sill. I would say about 70% end up growing........so its certainly worth a shot!!
Also Apple trees are very easy too.

Thanks dawn i have some strawberry seeds on my window at the moment

The privet is for my front garden to keep out nosey people! not to feed to my torts!

Tomatoes and chilli's can be grown from the seeds of shop bought ones. Same way as Dawn described, dry them out for a couple of weeks. Start with simple things like lettuce, tomatoes, squash, courgettes. I went a bit mad a couple of years ago and bought packets of seeds for everything and ended up getting overwhelmed and losing interest in the more labour intensive ones. Potato tubs are good as well, like a canvas bucket you grow potatoes in.

Planting seeds now will probably be too late.

I was in B&Q tonight and they have both organic and non organic plants of just about everything for food.. peas, chillis, cabbage, celeriac, lettuce, sweet corn, broccoli, marrow, cucumber, sweet peppers, beans and loads more at £1.48 each

These may help! 'Amateur Gardening' magazine is brilliant, too - full of helpful advice and comes with free seeds once a week I buy it now and again as a treat - less fattening than chocolate
