hello Kevins owner and welcome to the site. Is he pretty small ? yes to chasing round the vivarium and yes to digging himself in til he gets use to his surroundings - in the wild the little ones never stay out long otherwise they will get picked off.
Just make sure your viv gets plenty of air through it as they can cause RNS (runny nose) and stress the tort out. Tort table provides a better ability to provide right husbandry. Sub strate as natural as possible, not wood chip for example. top soil, coco coir good. up to 32 degrees heat end, UV A&B, cool end 16 - 22 degrees - make she he cools down is water misted daily otherwise the central heating will dry him out and humidity 55 - 65 %. lots to do and lots of places to feel safe - drinking water and weeds. Not to put a dampner on your little fella but research suggests most tortoises (reptiles ) die in first year of their life due to inadequate husbandry and or care and or illness...! have fun ! ask away, and a photo will be welcome too ,

Above will likely be subject to what species you have too !! let us know , CB
