Default Feeding question

We have two 7 year old Hermann's (1.3 and 1.1 kgs), and up to now have fed them twice a day. I am yet to see any definitive guidelines for how much you should feed and how often. Does anyone have any suggestions about this?

are they indoors ? there is always quite a debate about this because some say its a plate size amount you place in front of them and any left over remove - if outdoors they can have access to weeds any time and not necessarily any restrictions on amounts. My Horsfields will usually eat everything - they clear the plate as it were, and still seem hungry, but my spurs eat and turn their noses up more than once a day so it seems a waste. After a day on the lawn I will usually tuck my torts up with some weeds also and they usually eat up and trundle off to bed. I would say at least 35grammes a day twice a day is enough but it does depend on the tortoise and how active they are too., good to open up a discussion on it...CB

My tortoises are outside from April until Sept-October depending on the weather. I feed them once a day, the rest of their food they graze from my garden:0)
Inside they get fed only once a day.

My tortoise just lives on what he grazes when outside, with no supplementary feeding.
There a many variables to be factored in though, like plant variation and availability and size and numbers of tortoises kept.
When he's inside I feed once a day a portion the size of his carapace.

As you can see , there's variable ideas on this, so it's a case of read them all and make your own mind up, I feed mine twice a day, basically when they are hungry . My theory is, in the wild no one limits how much they eat, and in the spring when there is plenty to eat, but they do have cool days when they will eat less, and this is what regulates their feeding, the same can be said for our weather, as is permanently spring for them here. So I let the weather and temps throughout the summer regulate their feeding.
