New Arrival
A while ago on this forum I enquired about chickens and hatching eggs, and was advised to get some eggs off eBay which I did, also got a brilliant second hand incubator for a song. Exactly 21 days ago I put six eggs in the incubator, unfortunately 5 have been discarded over the last 3 weeks, 4 were infertile after 10 days and one had a blood ring very early on.
But at 8am this morning the remaining egg had a small crack in it, by 10am the crack had become a hole and the egg was making cheeping noises! At 10.30 the egg gave a violent shudder, split clean in two, and this fell out... After a few hours drying out it's been removed to the bottom of my study cupboard where I've set up a heat lamp, and a couple of hours ago it looked like this... Temporarily (or maybe permanently) named Six, at least until I know what gender it is, it's a feisty little thing and is already up on its feet and making a hell of a racket, especially when it sees the dog which I think it may regard as Mother! Thanx to everyone who gave advice, this was well worth doing and I'm going to get some more eggs now, see if I can do a bit better than one out of six next time! |

That's how I'm looking at it Ade, and of course it makes that one so special! The lady I got the eggs from was very apologetic and gave me a hefty refund, without asking me to return the infertile eggs.

Well done Graham
My Grandad used to keep Chickens, Ducks and Geese. I loved the baby chicks and it was my job to look after them. Its very rewarding
