I put a large box filled with sand and top soil on the hottest part of the garden. Steps leading up to it and plants all around so she doesn't feel too exposed. Today I showed her it and she seemed to like it and spent a while sniffing and a bit of digging then started eating overhanging leaves, then walked off and went into her house
She has only been here a few days but seems to know the layout of the garden already.
She is eating loads so I assume that's a sign that she isn't ready?

Hi Steve. Oh I think they will happily eat right up to delivery time, when they are not too busy pacing etc. The reaction to your box sounds promising. The thing is the tortoise has to choose the location and some are more fussy than others.

If she's not pacing about and sniffing the ground then she's not desperate to lay. I think it's a question of keeping an eye on her.

Sorry to pester you all again
I have bought a large tortoise table with UV light and heat lamp. Would it be a good idea to put her in this until she lays? I have been thinking, If she was mated last autumn and has eggs inside surely they must be due soon?
The weather has changed for the worse and I wondered what your thoughts are.
