i know what you mean.
I didnt leave them out by choice, its just that i went to get them in one evening and they had dug down, and i felt cruel digging them up so
left them out there, i got up twice during that first night to go out in the garden to make sure the enclosure was still intact

Just soil in mine.
I think its natural to worry about them outside all by themselves when you first put them out, but just wait till you see how well he does
