I can't find a slate big enough to fit the whole viv, and he sleeps on the sand, he was on sand when I got him, I also didnt say it was about how the viv looked nothing to do with that, but I do feel like tortoise's its best to give them as naturl as possible ad I think an empty tank with just a log and paper is not right.
Each to their own, sal is doing find on sand and slate Just another opinion |

torts require nautarl surrounds to thrive where as these lizards don't. you metion a log and paper does not look right.......but that is becuas ehave not added anyhting extra. sand and paper are just substrates it's up to you to add things in the tank.
like you said it is completey up to the owner but i just feel there are way more possitives to paper than negatives. |

fair enough, but seeing the effects of what sand can do to them and the pain they go through when they get a impaction, in my experince it is not worth the risk. alot of breeders nowaday use tile flooring or paper as substrate for the health reasons and it is easier to clean.
