Harry Potter is a Boy!! (i think??)
Whilst I was bathing Harry Potter our 18 month Horsfield, i'm sure he flashed at me. Was quite a shock as I thought it wasn't normally visible until they were alot older (maybe 4 or so?). I was a bit worried because it stayed out for about 20 minutes and I was concerned it may be stuck. Can somebody please tell me if this is normal?

Love his name
That does sound very young, my males only started flashing a few months ago and theyre over 6 but i grew them very slowly so maybe mine are small males and yours has been grown very quickly and is large male for his age, that maybe could explain Harry flashing so young. x |

I wonder if the fella in the reptile centre didn't actually know how old Harry Potter was when he sold him to me and just made it up? Maybe he is older than we first thought? It wouldn't surprise me as everything else he told me was wrong! Last time I weighed and measured him (7th January) he was 130g and his plastron was 3 1/2 inches long. How does that compare with the size / weight of your 6 year old?
Thanks Em & H.P x |

Ive got 2 boys, just weighed and measured one for you now cos theyre about the same size and weight.
Hes 6 yrs and 2months old and is 3 3/4" and 262gs. Ive grown all my torts very slowly, they are very active and roam and pick at the odd leaf all day, they dont get a large meal but i`ll put say 4 or 5 leafs around their enclosures and they`ll take a bite here and there while theyre walking around, they probably only spend 10mins a day actually eating maximum. Summer is different cos theyre outside and are picking at everything all day, thats when i have to monitor their weight so they dont over grow. A sign to look for if your tort isnt getting enough vits and is growing too fast is keratin stress marks, wiggly worms under his shell. If your tort has this then its likely he`s growing too quickly |

The shop was pretty rubbish really. We've had him since October and luckily not had any problems so far with him. We took him to our reptile vet as soon as we got him and she said he was in great condition and healthy, so I suppose thats all that matters. If he's a few years older than we thought it's not really a problem. Thanks for your help.
