Chaco Tortoises

I thought I should post pictures of all my Chaco tortoises.

The first 2 are the tortoises I've had the longest. I got these 2 males in 1989 and drove 800 miles round trip to get them.

This next male I got in 1993.

These 2 females I got in 2006.

These next 3 I got in August of last year. The male and the largest female weren't doing well. The male was light and had a runny nose and the big female was very light. The smallest female was doing just fine. They are all 3 doing excellent right now.

wow they look great....they look very different from alot of torts as them seem to have prehistoric look to them if you get me.

800 miles ,bloody hell, 5 mile walk to town us bad enough. your commited thats all i can say. 1989, there older than me

so are all the males lighter in colour than females.

Wow Dan they look great. Id never seen a chaco tortoise before. Thanks. I was going to ask about the colouring as well, the females all look darker

where do chaco tortoises originate from? are they rare?

They do look prehistoric

Probably because their closest relatives are Galapagos giant tortoises.

They are even older than that Christian. They were both adults when I got them. So the first male is probably around 40 years old and the second male 60 to 70 years old. It does seem that the males are lighter than the females, not sure though if thats consistant

They come from South America and are found in Argentina, Bolivia and Paraguay. They are rare in captivity and getting rarer in their native habitat, mainly because of habitat destruction.

Hi Danny, they are stunning. I think out of all the torts I've seen Chaco are my favourite. It's the markings and colourings. They are so beautiful and as I said one day, when I'm more experienced in keeping torts I would love one. Yours are lovely by the way and thanks for showing them. What personalities do they have? Are the inquisitive, do they like climbing or digging? I really want to knpw so much about them, sorry if I'm being a pain
