There Ibera ,Zarudnyi are bigger and there skin is black also no real research has been done into this sub speices they are very rearly seen in captivity if at all except for the odd ancient animal that turns up on the odd occasion .

Hi Nicky they will be long term captive's from when tortoises were legally imported years ago so answer to your question is yes wild caught.

It was once said that all melanistic spurthighed tortoises were classed as zarudnyi but these are certainly Ibera .
