Love Horsfields , lots of good info on here. they don't like lots of humidity. Try and keep a dry ish microclimate which means if on a table then don't mist masses. if in a viv tyr not to mist at all as it will generate bugs and Horsfields don't thrive well. My lot are on shingle and have been for over 25 years. they love it and burrow masses. all very dry except in summer on very hot days. Don't forget they come from arid steppes of Russia etc. cold at night, in fact probably freezing if you remember the guns of navarone and other such films.......they are lovely little things full of fun so lots of stimulation, hide holes etc, weeds only if can help it, my lot cherry pick dandelions only, again for over 25 years and have good shells, beautiful olive coloured and round and smooth. they are glutens and naughty. good luck CB

No, I will give that a go Alan, thanks!
Thanks for the advice, can I just ask what shingle is? The seeds I planted have already started growing, I even put some in the Viv which have started growing too, I've had to put a small barrier up to keep him from eating them, at least until they've grown a bit first. |

Please let me know if this works. He's on soil now not pellets and I've also sunk those dishes right down so he doesn't have a mountain to climb. |

He looks good in there and you will have fun trying to find your little shelled mole when he digs down in all that soil. |

Always check and see if anything has been added and poke a hole in a bag and give it the sniff test as some recycled soil has all sorts of stuff in it. |

If it is very damp then dry out in the greenhouse or I have put mine in the bottom of the oven before. Anything damp will grow micro-organisms quickly.

top soil always seems so hard and heavy to me but yes nothing wrong with top soil.. juts make sure lots of drainage, maybe bit stones etc as Horsfields don't fair well in wet soil or lawns etc....mind you so one told me the other day Horsfields don't get RNS, which I find hard to believe but maybe they are not so susceptible to it ?
