Twins!
Well I had a big surprise yesterday, upon checking the incubator to discover a hatchling, half out of her shell. As I picked up the dish and peered into the egg, which was full of vermiculite, I noticed part of another shell, then a back leg, then it dawned on me, two torts in one egg! The one which had got out was lively but I was convinced the other would be dead, until the back leg moved!
After about 30 second with them now in my hand, wrigging, joined together by a short cord, me panicking (thinking bloody hell, what to do now!) I calmed down popped them in a bath, one sideways as the cord wasn't long enough. I was scared they would rupture the cord, so I secured the cord as close as possible to their plastrons, sterilized my sewing scissors and cut them free. They weigh 10.54 & 5.73 grams & today the cords have nearly gone. I have taken lots of photos so will try to upload them in next few days. Fingers crossed. They’re so teeny, Lynn. I’m so pleased they’re doing so well.
