Making a new tort table

We are making a new tortoise table from pine. I wanted to stain or varnish the wood and i have some ronseal quick drying varnish and i was wondering if this is ok to use on the tort table????

I always think if its safe for children then its probaly ok for animals plus I don,t think torts chew wood or at least mine don,t and once its dry there are no fumes etc.

I'll varnish it same as dado rail, Thought it would be ok, just wanted to make sure i hadn't over looked something...
