I find mine will stay in the water longer if I bath them first thing in the morning, my main worry about doing this though is that I will forget about them and go to work!!! I have put them in before now and remembered them an hour later when the water is all cold and horrid (bad owner!) never gone to work and forgotten them yet though!

My Ovid seems to scrabble at the sides if it's too hot or too cold, maybe you need to make the water just a little bit hotter? Lily will be fine soon I'm sure - maybe he wants his own shower fitting up?

Maybe he's just not thirsty and doesn't want to sit up to his neck in water for half an hour every day.

Like the people on Jeremy Kyle some folks just don't like getting washed. Sometimes it's necessary so don't feel bad about having to put lily through it.

How often would they naturally find water? Not every day that's for sure. They can survive for a long time without water. It's just not natural to submerge them every day when they have no choice and can't get out. If they have access to a bowl of fresh water they will use it if they need to.

As has been said adult tortoises will seek out water if really thirsty so don't worry he'll be fine.I use a big deep cat tray then they don't feel so confined. |

As long as they are getting moist green, older tortoises can go a long time without water, babies are so much smaller, they do need to drink more if they are under hot lamps. In the wild, they would spend most of their day hidden under greenery to keep out the sun.
