Question "Here Boy"!!

Hi All

This is my first post! Firstly I’d like to thank everyone, this forum has been nothing but helpful and informative.

Towards the end of last year we adopted a 4 year old Spur-thighed we now call Spartacus. I did used to have two baby Hermans a long time ago (unfortunately i had to sell them on) so decided to update my knowledge and I’ve spent a lot of time on here and You Tube.

I came across this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTpgqgfJs4w and i was interested to get people's thoughts. I am sceptical and don't think for a second that a tort will come when called. Spartacus will come if he sees your hand assuming there is food in it! Looking at some of the comments people have mixed views.

Many Thanks

Think Wigwamman has answered your question but thought I would say welcome!

Also I think spartacus is a fine name for a tort but not so good for calling out your tortoise - you'd get loads of them coming out all calming to be him

Many times a tortoise will respond to sight sound and/or smell.

All of these are going to be in response to food.

You can just show up... tap a dish... or expose it to it's favorite food.

Hello and welcome, a few of my guys will come when I call them, but as EJ says I think they just see me as their source of food

I've usually found it to be the males of the species who come running! What's new?! They are definitely more curious- I only need to get the mower or strimmer out and one of mine in particular literally runs to be in on the act.

My hatchlings respond more than my adults, think they are more inquisitive/eager but they do definately respond to sound / movement (for food) rather than a name

Thanks All for the welcome

I agree with all your comments. As I said in my post, Spartacus will come if he sees your hand or food. He is very inquisitive but that’s only seems to be because he's after his next meal and he loves to graze!!

A great response to my first post. I’m sure there will be more as I embark on my next challenge of building a new tort table!!
