15 year old male TGI; wants to breed but no cert.
Hi, my male TGI was much more interested in my females this year (aged 8), but never quite managed to mate with them. I suspect next year he will, lucky boy! I was given him about 7 years ago, and he is aged 15 ish, so was hatched before the certificates came in. My females have certificates. Is there any way i can get a cert for him? It seems a shame that i have a nice breeding set, the room to set up as a breeder, but will be unable to register as one
Thanks for your help )

Your best bet is to contact Defra and explain your situation, they will probably want you to apply for an Article 10 cert and give as much information as you can, name of petshop/breeder where you got him from etc and they may just give you a breeding certificate ( for the princely sum of £25)

i have just re-homed a 6/7 yr old Herman but I've been told I have no chance of obtaining the required paperwork from Defra as I only know he was taken by the RSPCA & then handed to a Reptile Sacntury for re-hpming. So i'm snookered Willow will have to become a monk bless him.
So good luck matey. sue |

is it not the case that you can breed them but not sell them?

Although you may not be sucessful with obtaining a specimen specific certificate there is a dispentation certificate option which allows commercial breeding with the animal. It's called a errrrr hang on.....

Nope, the websotes all changed again. I seem to remember that they may supply a certificate that allows commercial use of a tortoise of unknown/unproven origins that allows commercial activity. Or you can give hatchlings away or not breed them. Give Animal health a call on 0117 372 8774
