Wish I could Paul, wish I could.
I don't know you make a humid hide, assist in an E Bay tortoise rescue and everyone thinks you can perform miracles!! I am not a saint. And yes my NYE fancy dress costume arrived today. (you'll have to see my thread in "general"). |

I'm thinking the "Jesus" thing works for you kirkie. Today, humid hide, tomorrow, the red sea parting!

The hide looks great - I'm going to have a go at creating one too.

I've had an idea on keeping the humidity of the substrate within the hide up, base the whole thing on a large plant pot holder dish thing () Err maybe I should post a picture when I get home |

Hi,
The thinking is that in the wild small tortoises spend a lot of time holed up in burrows or in deep vegetation where the atmosphere is quite humid. It's thought that a humid retreat may alleviate the pyramiding of shells to some extent. It's a complex idea because there is also a theory that in dry times there is little food and therefore growth and that during damp periods there is alot of food and accellerated growth. The combination of a relativly dry captive environment plus plentiful food may be a cause of pyramiding. Bit rushed but I'm at work. What costume? |
