Its very sad its happened, but dog attacks kill far more tortoises.
I posted this just because I thought people may find it interesting. At no point did I think anyone would take it into the realms of "there's nothing wrong with hibernation". It seems people who hibernate feel attacked if something goes wrong somewhere in the universe. Calm down, it's just an interesting story.

I don't think it's gone wrong. I just didn't expect this discussion. I just thought people would say how sad it is and how well the owner has done giving him a chance. Or discussing how he would cope etc.
I just find it odd that it has turned into a should we/shouldn't we hibernate discussion. And throwing in the "dogs cause more damage" mantra. Just amusing that's all.

Poor dogs, they get very bad press.

You dont seem amused, you seem not to be able to cope with other peoples opinions but just to cheer you up.....

poor tortoise
stupid owner for letting it sleep naturally outside when it should have been snuggled up next to the dog

I hate rats, if there's the possibility of blaming them I do
I'm guilty of that

Keep your torts well protected then other animals can't do what come naturally to them. Surely that's the answer.
