Mating Question
Hello all, I have 2 Tseudo's, one gracia gracia one gracia iberia. The oldest, Violet who's 6 has started mounting Yoda who's 2, my question is do females mount or could it be that she's a male? They have very different tails, Violet has a rounded, stumpy tail where as yoda's is more pointy. Also when she was mating, I saw nothing come out but liquid (sorry I know, TMI). She was definitely trying to have sex with him, she was squeeking, I've seen her rubbing her tail against a stone too. So is she just a frisky lady or is Violet a Victor?
Thanks in advance x |

Can you post pictures of both your tortoises? Top shell (carapace), bottom shell (plastron) and tail. This will help us be able to sex both your tortoises.

Violet is a male and Yoda is a female. They are though both Testudo graeca ibera. It would probably be a good idea to seperate the 2 of them as Violet is becoming adult and Yoda is much to small to be with an adult male.

I bought yoda a few months ago and was told he was definitely a boy! grrrrr that's annoying. They seem to enjoy each others company though, they're always nuzzling each other and they're always snuggling up together, they also stay together in the garden, I think they may miss each other if I seperate them but I do see what you're saying, thank you so much for your help x

Yup... I can't imagine the behavioral trait that dictates the behavior... actually I can... females can be quite dominearing at times.
...but... females do mount... for some reason. Quote:

I've actually realised it's the stone he's mounting not the little one, hopefully they'll live together happily, if not I have the old tortoise table I could put the little one in. They've become very close lately, always cuddling up together and nuzzling each other, it's very sweet
