Thanks for the help maybe will think about it in the future would really like one at some point. Will maybe sell my aquarium and get a nice big tank for one :0)

yes they are fun to have and watch, its good your asking about them before buying, there are so many unwanted turtles out there because people dont do there homework before buying

Would not buy one unless I was certain I could look after it would not want to add to that.

If they're male sliders they'll have long claws, don't worry. they use them in courtship. As has been suggested musk or mud turtles are a great choice and relatively easy to keep.

They are OK
Very long claws on american cooter or slider species are a male characteristic. They wave them in the female's face as a courtship ritual.
