After seeing many injured or killed tortoise's i don't get why anyone would take the risk , it's not just about the dog it's also the stress for the tortoise

You can't tar all dogs with the same brush. If a tort was stressed it would go inside it's shell. My torts follow my dog who takes no notice of them whatsoever. He was in the garden with my adult for 7 years while he was missing, they know each other very well.

For those of you that have said the cage is too small 'to be in all day', read the original post.

I have reread it and it still hasn't made the cage any bigger.

Thanks all for your comments.
Just to answer your questions, he does have water bowls both indoors and out doors and I have bathed him but he is not keen. What time of day would you say is best to bath your tort, does it matter? How often should they be bathed?
He does not spend all day in his indoor enclosure but bimbles around the house for when I come home from work if it is a nasty cold day outside. I like the idea of a cold frame and would like to look into making one for him.
The dog is never left unsupervised with the tortoise, they are always separated. I understand what some have said about it only taking seconds and agree that accidents can happen. He is a gentle dog and lives with small critters including 3 cats and Monty does not seem stressed by his approach, in fact he seems curious about the dog and cats and follows them around.
Thank you for the tip re the UV bulb, I didn't know that there were fakes out there. I will invest in a strip light type when I get paid next as this lot has cleaned me out a bit for this month.

Any dog has the capability of damaging or killing tortoise's , i've heard it before '' he wouldn't touch the tortoise'' , once its happened it's to late.

My dog is all my animals friendly, I occasionally let the torts roam around my house and she takes no notice of them but I make sure she is with me if i need to go out of the room or upstairs and i would never leave her alone with any of my other animals, and yes it only takes a second I too have seen some nasty shell damage from dogs x

I have to agree, dogs are natural predators and although my little bobby is only 1-1/2 he's already caught two birds ! One was flying low and he jumped for it ! It's not very nice but you can't help but admire how good he is at it for a little dog. He's good with the tortoises but I could never leave them with him. That's why the new pens are having a mesh lid put on them

You're tortoise looks great though mate !
