Outdoor enclosure little trees!!
Hi guys, I'm currently finilasing my outdoor enclosure for my Leopard Tort that arrives on Saturday after spending most of his life miserable in a 30 inch by 14 inch viv!! Poor mite!! I want to plant a few smallish trees, preferably with drooping flora that he could hide/chill by, im just stuck for what to get. Seen a few pics but dont have a clue what kind they are. Does anyone have any ideas of good plants/trees etc for his enclosure. Dont mind planting ones he'll nibble away at, but have to bear in mind he's currently around 9inches long so could prob squash tiny things.
Any help would be very appreciated as hopefully getting everything finished tomorrow Cant wait to get him home! |

I use Spider plants, Hebe, Rosemary, Lavender and some various grasses, all of these they don't eat, my torties are slightly bumpy so they don't have anything in their homes that they can eat, you could use these and plant a few pansies, violas, evening primrose for your wee un to eat, prob better to grow the flowers yourself as garden centers use insecticides etc but with the shading plants that's ok as they don't eat them, just wash off all the soil and let them grow in some if your own top soil for at least a few weeks before putting them in the enclosure hope this helps!

Cistus make great enclosure shrubs. They tolerate dry conditions very well.
I just got a load from here, really good plants, couple of feet high already. http://www.jacksonsnurseries.co.uk/f...?Search=Cistus Last edited by Kirkie; 03-04-2011 at 09:15 PM. |

Cheers guys. I'll get down to my local garden center and see what I can find, love the look of those Cistus Kirkie. Think couple of those with a lavender and Hebe will do nicely.
The little guys is currently being kept indoors on his temp tortoise table as the felt for his outdoor house roof didnt arrive as promised. He goes outside whilst were home but think he's a little overwhelmed by it all. In his tank he would nearly always be touching the side, so now when we've put him out he runs straight to the side and walks all around the edge of the wall rubbing his shell all the time. Really doesn't like to be out in open, hope he doesnt damage his shell against the brick!!!!! Cheers guys |

A good one if you can find it is a mimosa tree. It flowers and is edible for torts.
