Default Another sand and top soil question

May sound an obvious, but why do people mix sand with the top soil? What are the pro's and con's

yeah i was wondering this too actually, we're about to refurb stompy's tank with some soil but read on here that sand irritates their eyes sometimes so pros and cons would be good

I understand it is to help create a better medium for helping them to thermoregulate. The sand makes a better consistency for them to burrow/ dig down in, it kinda holds it's shape better and breaks up better than soil alone....if you get me

Others opinions on this would be most welcome

Also if you are mixing with top soil, sand is a lot cheaper to buy to bulk it out??

I agree with Alan. I did mix sand originaly but it did seem to get in Marly's eyes. Now I just just soil.

Thats what I have bought, I am wondering if the reason for sand mixture is just to alter humidity levels?
