Disapointed in my lighting..
Here is the deep dome I'm using:
http://www.bigappleherp.com/Zoo-Med-...=2&category=22 And here is the bulb: http://www.bigappleherp.com/Sun-Forc...ry-Vapor-Bulbs I used the 100W bulb. These are the exact products I been using, because I got them from this site. My problem is that my old bulb burned out, maybe after 8 months or so. I'm not sure how long the UVB or whatever lasts, but I was fine replacing it. I got a brand new one delivered about a month and a half ago at the most. And it burnt out this morning when I turned it on.. -.- What could be causing this? I didn't use the deep dome when I bought my first bulb, I was using a shallower one but the light bothered my wife so I got the deeper one. I think my problems started 4 months or so into it. Could it be the deep dome that's doing this? I cannot afford to keep going through lightbulbs at the current rate and it kinda sucks for my torts to have one break and have to wait for a new one to ship in.. I don't like to punish them with only the heat bulb |

Hi Set, dont these bulbs have a warranty period ?? Perhaps it is just the Mega Rays but surely burning out after a month, or within the 6 month period is in warranty. If not, I would certainly contact the website especially with one going after a month.
Maybe look at the Arcadia range - I think though, they only do the 160w at the moment but are looking to introduce a 100/120w very soon. Or if you are totally fed up with things, you could just go back to using separates - a good strip and a good halogen for basking?? But first see where you stand with contacting the website and tell them this problem. They might have had a faulty batch perhaps??# YOu might also get a good Mega Ray now...being over in the US, there might be more stockists there, and also you could try getting from Reptile UV directly. They may have sorted out their problems. But this isnt for sure of course. The other alternative is the Solar Glos - again not as good as MR and Arcadia but from what I have read on here, seem reliable enough. A few things I hope that help and that you can think about. xx I hope you sort this out Set. xx |

Compared tp what we pay in the UK those Mercury vapour bulbs look like great value. $30? But maybe not a bargain if they don't work.

The Zoomed's are not bad... not the best out there, but see how you go with it Set, you might find it works well for you, and thats the main thing. That it is RELIABLE and that you dont have to mess about getting replacements. xx I am not sure if there is a warranty offered on these... so keep your paperwork for a while just in case. xx Good luck Set.
