Hi there i am new and am hopefully getting my very first tort a horsefield, i am getting a table but am really struggling with what lights i need, want to do this properly and not just jump in and put the tort in any suffering. What do i need uvb and basking or daylight or is there a bulb that does both? Whats the best ones to get, really dont want the tube as as its a table i think bulbs will be better. Can you help anyone!!:-d

Hi you will need uvb lamp and heat lamp (just a normal household one at 100W should do the trick. You can get combined bulbs that give you the heat and uv your tort will need.
megaray are meant to be really good but from what I've read they've had some problems lately(maybe solved now?) There are also a few others solar glo is another one think a few people use these http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/reptil..._lights/114906 There's also these that are new on the market and currently on offer here http://www.reptilica.co.uk/Arcadia-D...-UVB-UVA.phtml and these come with a 1yr guarantee
. If you decide on a combined bulb you will need a porcelain lamp i.e http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Exo-Terra-Glow...#ht_2713wt_911
I'm sure some more experienced tort owners will be able to advise you more but hope this is of some help to you =D x

Hi Clarey, welcome to SW
I'd personally go with a separate UVB bulb and Basking bulb, it gives you a lot more accurate freedom. I've only just recently got my first tort and have the two separate bulbs and am finding it a lot better. I did buy a combined bulb and set my tortoise table up all ready for this combined bulb and it didn't even work for one day!! I now find the two separate bulbs a lot better as I turn my heat lamp off for an hour sometimes if it's really warm in my house as I find my little tort is a lot happier without it on. Like Miller07 said, I'm sure some experts will be along, hope i've helped a little! Good luck with your new tortie!!

Hey!!
I have seperates for my tort at the moment but have purchased a megaray and lamp holder. I got them from a shop recommended by the tortoise trust. I told my vet which seperates I had and he recommended a combined like a mega ray as they use these when reptiles are ill to help them recover. Mine has a guarentee with it. They are expensive though. If its no good I wont get another, but it's worth a bash!! Where are you getting your horsefield from. I got mine from breeder in liester (have i spelt that right??) I think the website was called Kimbos reptile world they have a section for the Jill Martin Charity and there are lamps etc for tortoises. I hope that helps.
