I have been putting off contacting the owner as I did not want to worry her as she was really upset when she left Lily here.

We had chatted for so long that I just wanted to check that I have remembered everything that she told me

Previously Lily had a vivarium with a heat mat but when the owner offered it to me I declined

I have now emailed trying not to worry her.

I will keep you all posted

Lisa

PS Tom is letting me have the new Leopard enclosure next to the house instead of at the bottom of the garden. I just wish this rain would go away so that we can start work on the footings. Both girls can meet on 3/4/07.

heard from owner apparently Lily is a real character and is quite often very stubborn

her favourite foods are cucumber, dandelion, red+yellow+orange peppers, normal grass, strawberries, tomato, grapes, little bit of apple. owner used to sprinkle food with calcium powder.

as for substrate owner said she used fibre pellets but was sure that Lily would much prefer the soft bedding that I am using. I am using Readigrass which I also use for Honey as it does not matter if she eats it

owner did not bath her just left water container in her viv

not quite so worried now I assume she is just being stubborn

the only food I have given her is normal grass, dandelion, timothy hay and cucumber

Hi

Well... from a diet point of view it would seem that Lilly is missing the things that she had before.... BUT DONT GIVE IN - you are doing the right thing. Lilly will eat when she is hungy. She should not be eating fruit.

Bathing - again you are doing the right thing.... if she does not drink water at least during the bath she will be taking on water via her tail... keep it up.

Well done for so far

Lisa you can add back in the peppers I think the colors might perk up her appetite. Like the cucumbers, just mix them in. The peppers though you can give as a treat every couple of weeks after she starts eating her greens better

Dan

Can peppers be given to Leopards in general for a once in a blue moon treat?

hi sorry i was so long replying, some leopards can be very shy so perhps she needs a little privacy, also are you sure you have a good background heat i have found that if you dont provide this they dont move much and they need to stimulate the appetite also at night if it is too cold it can take some time to generate enough heat to digest the food if they only have the spot heat to rely on, another thing if she is sitting under the heat lamp all day just to keep her temperature up you will find she can dehydrate very quickly so keep up the baths and try a little junk food (cucumber tomatoes iceberg ) to get her eating then reduce it over a period of days until she is eating properly again although i suspect the background heat could be the problem .

hello again please be aware that if this tortoise isnt eating because she is stressed in any way it can very quickly develop into rns or another illness so please delay the end of the quarantine period until she is eating properly and still not showing any signs of illness
