Hello
Hi My name is Jessica
I am a new mom to a red footed named "Helga." She was in a pet store for at least six months but is huge compared to her friends. 16 cm from head to tail and 10 cm wide and weighs around 1300 kg. How old do you think she is? She is my husbands and I's first tort and won't be our last. We absolutely love her. She is completely spoiled (indoor home, runs the house when we are home, and has a good sized outdoor pen) All inspired by your pictures. Which my husband thought I was crazy till I showed him I would like to thank all of you for your knowledge. I researched before purchased but still have lots of questions. My husband Tim and I do not have any children yet. For now, our kids include... Helga, 2 German Shepherds, 1 Guinea Pig, 1 Chubby Frog, 1 Ball Python, 1 Columbian Red Tail Boa, 2 fish tanks (african cichlids) and 1 Rat. Thanks Again and Glad to be here!

Welcome to the forum
I'm glad the site has been of use to you. Don't forget any questions please ask we all happy to help. As for her age wait for an experienced red foot keeper who may be able to hazard a guess. Although it will never be exact, because different torts in different situations grow diffrently. Would love to see some pics.

hi jessica
a big welcome i have 4 redfoots arn't they just great i got mine at a very tender age from a very experienced breeder i was guided that they should grow about 1 inch per year i suppose thats about 2.5 cm per year if kept on the correct diet so 5 inches is approx 6 years old etc etc ( ie 1 inch for the hatchling + 1 inch per year age )) but you never know what diet your tort had before it came to live with you it may have been overfed and now look older than it really is its is difficult to guess a torts age but if you put some pictures up along with weight length etc i am sure somebody more experienced will give u an educated guess linda x |
