This should give you a good steer on husbandry requirements for this species. Great choice by the way!! |

Musk turtles, are not frequent basking turtles, they are best described as "Bottom walkers".
With correct diet and access to UV irradiation, as they require. I am sure that they will thrive. Unlike Sliders and Cooters which are flambouyant in their basking habits the Musk will be rather crepuscular and in truth more active, after "lights out". That said, their foraging in a well planted Tank set up should keep you fascinated for hours and hours. There are some posts recently from people in the UK who have either just hatched eggs, or have just had eggs laid. With luck, these Turtles will breed well in a home aquarium set up. Therefore, a complete and very satisfying prospect is to provide a complete and happy life in captivity? |

If you are thinking of trying to reverse Day into night. NO Activity, if the animals are not too stressed will be observed in your normal daily routine, and as they settle in to the captive environment you will see more and more of their foraging and other interactions. Please note however, that they do like a lot of cover and heavy planting of the tank can be useful, with this species of Turtle. |
