what about really heating a room/cupboard before the power goes of then with the incubater covered and the door shut the heat should stay in the room for a while, or the airing cupboard may be worth using.

Airing cupboard sounds like a good idea.

I'm sure they will be fine for a few hours. If I remember rightly, Chris had his incubator off for 3 days and they all hatched fine

I'd think insulating it with blankets and hot water bottles would help and not opening it while the leccy is off, they must have cold days in the wild I'm sure ? I know some people have found hatchlings in the garden after not realising their tort had laid and the hatchlings were fine so I'm sure low temps for a day will be fine, hope all goes ok

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions ( apart from you Alan, enough about your one big and two small ones )
I am going to cover it in an old quilt and then pop a hot water bottle on top of the incubator when the temps start to drop. If they are going to make it they are going to, as others have said, they are going to experience a drop or two in the wild. I feel confident that the drop won't affect the hatchling rate, just maybe the sexes. Like most I'm incubating for females but obviously that's not an exact science so fingers crossed it's too early for the determination stage |

It would be interesiting to know what the temps dropped like throughout the power cut so if this happens again to you or others how much a concern it would be. If your around in the day could you jot down how much it drops and post it please. Obviously only if you have a thermometer you can see externally

Sit on them.
Err was just going to add keep the incubator closed and they'll be fine. My incubators are in my warm turtle room and they'll sit at 26C switched off so if your can keep the room warm it'll help the incubator. I've been dropping some eggs down to 24C overnight this year and they're still going. |
