you telling me it is not as simple as hot blooded can create heat to keep warm etc, cold blooded can not, so uses heat sources, like sun, to warm up to get metabolism etc going?

This is why heat and hydration are the two most important components in reptile husbandry... nutrition follows after those.

Not many tortoise keepers seem to be able to grasp that basic concept.
...hence the questions on rate of growth... winding down this time of year... among other questions related to temperature.
