Not a happy bunny
Oh dear, I'm not a happy bunny. Hubby asked if I'd thought what I might like for my birthday this morning and all excited I told him I'd love a tortoise!!
I explained all about my research and how to care for them etc, etc and then he dropped the bombshell.......NO, I can't have one He reckons he's against it because, when he was a child, he saw what a dog did to his friends tortoise. Was really nasty and he won't ever forget it. We've got three dogs so he just won't agree to a lifetime of worrying about the dogs and tortoise in the same garden, no matter how good the barriers are! You've all be so kind on here, thank you.

Lots of people have dogs and torts but there is always that risk I suppose as has been seen on here on various occasions, most recently with Paul1 I think

Don't think i would keep dogs and torts but that's just a personal choice. At least you hve learnt lots and have a much better knowledge about torts so if circumstances change you'll have a head start!

My husband was very anti- tortoise when I first joined here. I now have five so don't lose hope as he may well change his mind one day. I don't have dogs but many people do have both.xx

I have a dog and 4 torts, my dog doesn't have any access at all to my torts, indoor or outdoors, and I don't forsee any problems. He just has a little sniff at their cages as he goes by and does occasionally watch them, mainly when they are being fed lettuce, as he loves lettuce too

poor you, lol, you could tell him, you already have other animals that the dogs could do just as much damage too
our dogs have never touched the torts, lol, the staffy we have at the mo, is bestest friends with a tiny rabbit, i would never leave them unsupervised, but they run around the garden together but its not bad that your hubby has concerns, least he shows he cares |

Your husband is right in a way that dogs and torts don't mix, but it can be done. I have a dog I love her and she is so gentle but I never trust her with my torts, enclosures can be made dog proof, its a bit of work but worth it for peace of mind. I hope you can get it sorted as they are wonderful creatures and worth keeping well.
