2 dead tortoises
Hello I recently acquired a new young hermans tortoise from ******* (removed for legal reasons please pm) , which were in 'perfect health' he said. However, the youngest died after about 1 month and my older one which I have had for about 1 and 1/2 years has also died of the same disease. I did go to thevets and got various treatments which did nothing at all. *********, do not want anything to do with this, is there anything I can do as I am very angry.

I would have thought it will be very difficult unless you can get a vet to put in writing that the disease came from the tortoise you recently brought, as for a claim for the disease being passed on, well unfortunately they will just come back and say you should have quarantined the animals before introducing them. This is a frustrating situation but one which is all too common, best bet would be to put it behind you and try and find replacements from good uk breeders, try the TPG for a full list of UK breeders.
Just be careful about putting them back into your existing set up without proper sanitation, be awful if the bacteria was still in your equipment !! I am really sorry for your loss !! Darren |

The dealers you brought your tortoises from deal in wild caught tortoises and are very well know from it. Your poor tortoises would have been wild caught and the stress they must have gone through must have been horrible. Its not your fault you were unaware.

Can you PM the name of the dealer? Something is actually being done about one notorious dealer, if it's the same dealer then people with experiences like yours are being asked to complete witness questionnaires for use in court, you could help to put him out of business.
