Hi everyone!

I was just wondering what is the ideal ratio for Hermanns?

I have heard as little as 1.2 and a many as 1.7?

Would love to hear others thoughts

Thanks

I thought a minimum of 3 females per male - to spread his attentions around!

I,ve got 1 to 4 which works fine. They all lay fertile eggs so they're not too much for him and he's quite elderly!

i dont think the numbers really matter, what matters is can you handle the offspring from many females.(space, time, cost)

if you dont intend to breed then why not keep just females then you avoid all the aggro ,the ladies will not have to keep replacing the calcium used to form eggs, thats if they are not laying at the moment.
hope this makes some sense

Well i started with one male and he came from a group and they gave hime too me because he 'wasnt up to the job' lol and he seemed very lonely and reserved fo a good 6-7 months so once his quarantine finished i got some females and he was a changed tort lol.

As far as im aware females will lay without a male being around so th calcium thing isnt really an issue.

What you said does definatly make sense but i wouldnt change my tortoises/get rid of any for the worl as they are my pets i just dont wish to at the minute breed from them because its too much to be dealing with at the minute, harsh i know but personal curcumstances are stopping me from doing so.
im simply wandering the ideal ratio for my male and females to be happy without having to much attention on one sigle female.
Many thanks for commenting thought
