Default Greedy Girl

Hello

I have had my 7 year old Thigh Spur for a couple of years, and she's come racing out of hibernation this year. I decided she hadn't put enough weight on last year (although she was fine on the Jackson chart to hibernate), so this year so far I've been feeding her a bit more, and definitely bathing her more - pretty much every day. She's putting on weight really fast now, and I'm worried she'll grow out of her shell! She eats everything and then marches about demanding more!

Can anyone tell me how much exactly I should be feeding her? She has at the moment mostly Komodo (there are hardly any safe weeds near us this time of year) with added human veggies a couple of times a week.

Also, when the seed mix I've planted grows, how much should I give her? It seems weird to have to measure food seeing as if she lived outside she would graze all day, but her massive hunger is worrying me now!

Sorry if I sounds so dumb having had her a couple of years already

How long is she and how much does she weigh?

http://www.tortoise-protection-group...k/site/171.asp

According to this Jackson ratio calculator she is 0.228 which is nearly 'possibly too heavy'. Many recommend feeding enough leaves that would cover the shell, once a day in the afternoon.

If the Komodo food you mentioned is the coloured pellets they are not ideal food. I would never feed them to my mediterranean tortoises, the are made from a base of oats and maize. I feed weeds and flowers only to keep things as close to nature as possible. I grow my own weeds and have 2 good size gardens so availability is never a problem, there is just less variety.

Her ideal weight is 243g, so she isn't a bad weight. I suggest you reduce the amount of pellets to once or twice a week and look at adding some plants/weeds.

Isn't her weight perfect at 10cm and 228g (I get 229g for 10cm). I wouldn't change a thing with her as she's doing excellently with how your feeding her now.

I'm on the phone so not sure I can do it. I thought they were closer than that to the same weight but if your getting that than it must be right
I still wouldn't change her diet as she isn't over weight
