Default salad diet

I have just collected a tortoise that has been fed on a salad diet, it is 2 years old and bigger than my 3 year old!!!

Do I need to change the diet gradually or can i just go straight to weeds?

its up to you

wean the tort off the salad

or go cold turkey

a healthy tort will not starve itself

keep up with hydration during the change over

good luck

Is it possible to put on weight on a salad diet? Salads don't contain lots of calories. Do weeds contain less calories?

apparently her favourite food is carrot!

She is 2 years and 10cm and nearly 200g and my 3 year old fed entirely on weeds is only 8.5cm and 100g!

I didn't know carrot was included. I thought we were talking lettuce and cucumber. See what you mean now

well she has had a few bites of the weeds so thats a promising start strangely she went for the plantain before the dandelion! Miss Munchkin always leaves the plantain until last!!!

Depends what salad items she was fed , carrot is a good food in moderation contain high levels of Vit A and fiber, most lettuce especially flat leaved varieties are poor in any nutrition but lettuce does have a good calcium /phosphorus ratio. I don't think its a terrible thing to mix salad greens and occasional grated carrot to a weedy/flower diet, its sugar rich fruits that are the major problem . I would feed weeds salad mix wean off as you feel necessary D
