I got one of these from argos today (although no tortoise yet) just a quick question there is quite a strong smell from the wood is this a problem for torts?

I was thinking of doing this exact same thing yesterday before I even saw this post, I loved the idea and now I know everyone else is doing it too I'm even more convinced I should go for it

I would say it's probably ok for a baby, but Horsfields like a deep substrate and by the time you've put 6-7" of substrate in it the sides may not be high enough....unless you could add to the sides of course

However, i'm not a Horsfield keeper, see what the others think

Yeah I thought as much, hence why I asked. Most of the sand pits I have seen have just not been enough depth wise.

There are loads of these on ebay, just put in wooden sandpits.

Keep an eye on the link later in the year, sand pit tend to get reduced to 1/2 price later in the year at Argos.
