I think I can remember from a long time back, Danny explaining the difference between THB and THHerc, although Herc don't usually have them, it's not a hard and fast rule , occasionally they can have them. I might be wrong, but I'm sure I remember him saying this.

You are right.
Even some THBs dont have them , so cant determine "subspecies" only from this. Most THHercs dont have them , some have both , some very small ones and a few only one. Then again some claim THHercs arent a hermanni subspecies, but just a small THB from northern area. Hercs looks can differ a lot even though their natural habitats are small and pretty close, compared to fx. THH which have water between habitats. It could prolly be discussed from now to christmas , just like the thread about THH region and the ethics bout keeping them "clean". Colours . plastron black markings , yellow cheek spots , size etc. differs a lot, even when you compare speciments comming from same area. I dont think you can tell regions due to colours.

cor that's brilliant ON, I couldn't see them too well in the book I am reading. Is it like an appendix in that they really do nothing ! sorry if insulted ! I get it could be locality or lend credence to locality, CB

The tortoise world is certainly very interesting and I'm sure there is an awful lot we will never know or understand about them i spend hours watching mine trying to work out why they do things and just when you think you have an answer they do it differently .
