Wow, i bought this wonderful bit of gadgetry last week and am using it all the time, its the 8gb version. CPWarehouse are selling them for £169 at the mo, anyway i went in and not being it savvy i ased if i could have one, the sales assistant basically sold me one without a mention of a contract with o2.
Anyway, i have scoured the internet, adn peeps reckon that you can just unloc the phone to another provier, which is what ive doen, avoid itunes updates and bobs your uncle, which is what ive done.
Do those who are up to speed on these things think o2 will chase me to sign up ( icould even be refused a contract through credit !) or bloc my imei number ?

Surely if they were that keen theyd get people to sign up and register in store like other phones and suppliers, wouldnt they ??

well when they came out people were buying them from franc eas they came sim free so they could use there own network on them rather than going wuth o2 so i reckon you will be fine

So are you saying that the french people who bought them should have subscribed to o2, but diddnt and it was easier as they were already sim free ?

you were wondering if the being un locked wa sok i thought......i was saying people inthis country that did not want to be on 02 brought the phone from france as it was simfree and they ar efine on it

Yes, im asing whether the fact that if i dont sign up to the 02 contract what will happen ? will o2 come after me or loc via imei numbers ?? hope not

they won't do anything. had loads of phone unblocked, as soon as your contract ends thats it....if you ahve taken a contract out then you will still have to pay until it runs out but your phone will not be effected

Hiya...

I'm a fellow iphone owner...but fell for all the scare stories of unlocking them and signed up to 02, i don't think you will have a problem with unlocking it tho...i don't think they'll find you!

What do you think of it then? I'm a bit 'meh' about it all:

-can't record video
-can't send or recieve pics from mates
-can't contect to internet unless in wifi area
-very average speakers considering it's an iphone with itunes on
- No customisable ringtones (by the way i found a way of doing this if you want to know how... )

Good things;

- Makes me happy just to look at it
- loads of gizmos on it to play with
- itunes and movie quality when listen through headphones

It is a great phone but could be soooo much better xxxx......and theres my review

Should have got a nokia N95.

But if you haven't had to sign up for a contract, then you are basically a pay as you go customer, and its not illegal to have a phone unblocked, so you haven't done anything wrong.

Mine is now unblocked on orange and i hope o2 dont chase me and remind me that i have to initiate a contract.
I can browse the interent through the edge connection no worries. Cant be bothered with video messaging. My main thing was to get a phone that allows me to quickly and easily recieve emails within a few seconds and answer simply.
My other phones , nokia sony eric etc, took ages to get my emails. This fits the bill.

Camera is not great, no flash, but for £169 from CPW im happy so far.
