Agreed, to many lazy keepers out there, wanting to take what seems to be the easy way.
Which might be for them but not the tortoises.

I thinks its probably more due to ignorance, the see something advertised as tortoise food, and think it must be a properly balanced diet, and actually better for the tortoises than weeds.

i fed stan (hermanns) on similar pellets by t-rex and was indeed told that it was a complete food and all he would need. as he used to munch munch munch them and was active i assumed he was happy, well and was getting all the nutrients he needed. i still have some of the pellets that i may feed him as a treat ocasionally with a bit of tomato which he loves but now i know better. the message just isnt out there. ive had stan several years and its just by luck i fed him dandelions until now, as i know better through joining shelled warriors.
hes a happier tort now the sun is out and he can go outside during the day and eat all the clover his belly can hold |

For me the weed issue is a no brainer - they're free & I have access to tons of the stuff. The tortoises seem to like it and are growing well.

i agree that ignorance is abig part, i mean alot of people buy normal hamster food for there rodents and such as thats what there told and seems good as it is sold in petshops, altho youcan buy all natural food for them called rosewood products which is full of seeds, leaves, sticks, bark, fruit and such
if ther etold to feed pellets then there gonna look for the cheapest place to buy pellets if there told they can feed them pretty muchg free then they are most liekly gonna do that |

"convenience" springs to mind - lazy and ignorant! AAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!
blood boiling - I just ask: how do they get pellets in the wild?!! saying that I had a client with an iguana eating pasta with cheese sauce from a jar: it died of hypocalcaemia because he knew better than me as to what it needed to eat. amazing that lizards have learned to shop and take lids off jars.... we have a long way to go to spread the right word.
