Leopard help please

Hello,

I've been very worried lately over my little leopard tortoise called Donatello, he's getting on to 14 months old. He suffered with a nasty eye infection caused by play sand which where getting into his claws. We've treated the little fellow with some eye drops, and his eyes are brand new! Now he seems really inactive, sleeps mostly through out the day. Which isn't like little Donatello at all. He's got a Zoo Med Powersun 100 watt two in one bulb. His temperatures seem to be around 85-95 fahrenheit. We soak him every day, for at least 10 minutes aday. He usually eats straight away after a nice warm bath, but he's not eating at all. I say he's not been eating for roughly fortnight. Me and my partner are getting very worried. Please any suggestions?

Reece sorry to hear about Donatello. I am not an expert on Leopards but wonder if the eye drops were medical prescribed ones if he saw the vet? It may seem like an infection has cleared but maybe it is still painful for him or has underlying probs - topical eye drops over the counter though they have good qualities may not root out an infection. I would suggest not eating as you will know indicates a bit of a problem though you seem to be doing everything ok. I would say a quick trip back to the vet , an expert who maybe can identify why he isn't eating. The whole nasal, ear eye is all connected and could have transferred bacteria. I would weigh him too and keep a check on that daily. Weight is good indicator or good and poor health, CB

I also have little knowledge on leopards, but do know they can be very hard to keep if you dont get the husbandry correct. They are one of the more stubbon speices.
Diet should be 70% grasses and 30% weeds and flowers. High heat needed 24hrs a day. Although slightly lower temps at night to daytime. And once really warmed up can go outside to graze, which is the best way for them to eat grass.

I am a leo owner mines 9 now and to be honest we took years getting his set up right as some are more sensitive then others.

What would be realy helpful is if you answer some more questions and put a picture up of his setup?

How old is Donatello?
How long have you had him?
What do you use to keep hm warm at night?
What s the night temp?
How old is the bulb you are using?

If your tortoise isn't eating it may be because he can't find the food. I hand feed mine when she's poorly. Have you tried the same putting his favourite food before his face to encourage him?.
He needs to see a vet because he could be in pain if his eyes are sore it could be pretty painful.
His change in behaviour is obviously an indicator that something isn't right.
My experience with vets find a tortoise specialist.
I was ripped off for 12 months by a vet I thought was qualified then when I found out he wasn't took her to a tortoise specialist and he barely charged me and was sorted in one visit. I was charged over £200 at the unqualified vets and he didn't cure her.

When I say £200 I mean at every visit for 12 months I must have been charged £1000 in total.
The specialist charged me £40 for the consultation and roughly £5 for the medication!
I travel to see him every year for a check up now it's wel worth it.
In case anyone is wondering the vets I travel to now (the one I recommend)
