So I gave my 2-3 year old Horsefields Tortoise a tiny bit of Romaine Lettuce, I turned around as I was hearing hissing, choking noises. I realised that my Horsefields Tortoise (Flora) was choking. She was moving her neck in and out, her mouth was as wide as possible, and she was making these noises. I didn't know what to do, she was clearly distressed. I picked her up (mid-choking) and leaned her forward. Then I quickly ran a warm bath for her to hydrate and also help swallow the remainder of what she was choking on. She is still a bit shaken so I have her under close watch.

Has anyone else ever experienced this? What did you do?

I dunno. Sounds weird man.

My guy does stuff like that from time to time, but normally when I pick him he's totally cool.

He's a weird guy lol.

So you think she choked on the lettuce?

I pretty much avoid lettuce big time. Django never has problems with various weeds/rocket etc.

You sure she was choking yeah?

How frightening for both of you I have never heard of that before - was it definitely the lettuce, nothing was picked up as well as?

When I first got little yoshi he started choking on a leaf, it was sooo scary, I too put him in a soak which eased it but he carried on kind of wrenching on n off. I phoned the vet who was baffled but thought that maybe he'd scratched the inside of his throat. It made me super paranoid and even now,I make sure his food has no hard or big bits in it lol
It's not nice to see, u feel so useless
